GAME NOTES: With a chance to win the outright Big Sky Conference regular season title the Weber State Wildcats will take on the Eastern Washington Eagles this evening at Reese Court.
The Wildcats already own a share of the Big Sky title with a 12-2 ledger, but with a win this evening they will stand alone as champs of the regular season. Weber State has won its last four contests, and come into this game fresh off an 89-64 victory over Idaho State.
The last time the Eagles took flight the team was shot down by Northern Arizona, 74-71, in overtime. It was the second straight loss for Eastern Washington, which is a meager 4-10 in conference play.
The Wildcats own a comfortable 36-19 edge over EWU in the all-time series, but the Eagles have captured 14 of their 19 victories in the series at Reese Court. Earlier this season the Wildcats pounded EWU, 89-67, in Ogden.
The last time the Wildcats were on the court the team exploded offensively, scoring 89 points in their win over Idaho State. Weber State shot a sizzling 53.6 percent from the floor, and also connected on 13-of-30 attempts from behind the arc. Nick Hansen led the way with 21 points, while Steve Panos added 14 points. Kyle Bullinger posted 12 points and eight rebounds, while Lindsey Hughey tallied 10 points. As for Damian Lillard, he netted just nine points, but was able to dish out eight assists. Lillard has been the top player on the floor for Weber State, as the guard is posting 19.7 ppg, to go along with 3.7 apg. Panos is contributing 11.7 ppg, while Session is posting 10.6 ppg, to go along with 6.2 rpg.
Inconsistency has plagued the Eagles at the offensive end of the floor this season, as the team is netting just 68.9 ppg, behind a pedestrian 41.9 percent shooting effort. Glen Dean is pacing the team with 12.3 ppg and 4.5 apg, while Jeffrey Forbes is posting 11.0 ppg. The last time the Eagles were in action the team scored 71 points, but still fell to Northern Arizona in overtime. Eastern Washington shot 44.1 percent from the floor, but finished just 7-of-19 from behind the arc. Brandon Moore led the way with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Dean added 13 points and six assists. Forbes and Benny Valentine chipped in with 10 points apiece in the loss.
The Wildcats might be on the road, but they are clearly the better team in this matchup and should have no trouble continuing their dominance over conference opponents.
