Yale (10-17) at Dartmouth (5-19)

GAME NOTES: The Dartmouth Big Green try for just their second Ivy League win tonight as they host the Yale Bulldogs at Leede Arena in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Dartmouth, which has a total of just five wins on the season, took on Cornell last Saturday night and was thumped by the top team in the Ivy in an 88-70 final. The defeat was the eighth in the last nine games for the team.

As for the Bulldogs, they were handed their second straight loss and the third in the last four games last weekend as well as they suffered an 81-69 loss to the Penn Quakers in Philadelphia.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, Yale leads by a count of 101-94 and is looking for the season sweep for the third time in the last four seasons.

Alex Zampier scored a team-best 21 points for the Bulldogs against Penn last weekend at The Palestra, but he shot just 7-of-19 from the floor and 1-of-7 behind the three-point line in the effort. Michael Sands accounted for 16 points, making all eight of his free-throw chances, while Paul Nelson registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort. Through the 25 games in which he has appeared, Zampier leads the team in scoring with his 17.6 ppg, while Sands checks in with 10.7 ppg, but between the two they have knocked down just 47-of-161 shots from behind the three- point line and that has them down around 29 percent on the season. The team as a whole is making just 29.1 percent out on the perimeter.

It was worst vs. first last weekend in Hanover, and the Big Green failed to give Cornell much of a fight. Ronnie Dixon was the high man for Dartmouth with his 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor, while David Rufful posted another 11 points as the team shot a solid 50 percent from the field and 7- of-15 behind the three-point line, but against the best team in the league that's not good enough. According to NCAA stats, of the 334 programs covered in the rankings, Dartmouth is the lowest-scoring team in the nation (as of 2/21) with a mere 54.2 ppg. The squad doesn't have a single double-digit scorer on the roster and ranks second-to-last in the country in three-point baskets made per game with only 3.6.

Yale might not be the best team in the Ancient Eight these days, but there is little doubt that the Big Green is playing rather small and probably will again tonight at home.
