GAME NOTES: Currently on top of the West Division in the Mid-American Conference, the Ball State Cardinals will try to inch closer to a first-round bye in the conference tournament when they battle the Toledo Rockets this evening at Savage Arena.
The Cardinals own an 8-6 mark in league play which is good enough for first place in the West. However, the last time the team was on the floor, the Cardinals saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with a 72-67 loss to Eastern Michigan.
Losing has become a habit for Toledo this season, as the team has dropped 26 of its 29 matchups. Toledo, which is currently 0-14 in league play, comes into this game with a 19-game losing skid, which includes a 61-41 loss to Western Michigan on Wednesday.
The Rockets own a 40-36 edge over Ball State in the all-time series, and are 26-9 against the Cardinals at home. Earlier this season however, the Cardinals dominated Toledo by a 71-43 margin.
The Cardinals have been offensively challenged throughout the season, as the team is netting just 61.0 ppg on the year. Jarrod Jones is the only player posting double figures for Ball State, as the forward is pacing the team with 12.3 ppg and 7.5 rpg. The last time the Cardinals were on the floor the team shot 48.0 percent from the floor, but finished on the wrong end of a 72-67 decision against Eastern Michigan. Randy Davis led the way in the loss with 16 points, while Jones added 14 points to go along with six rebounds.
The Rockets were terrible in their last matchup, as the team shot a miserable 31.1 percent from the field, en route to a 20-point loss to Western Michigan. Toledo made just 8-of-24 attempts from behind the arc, and finished a mere 5- of-11 from the foul line. Jake Barnett led the way in the loss with 17 points, while Justin Anyijong tallied 11 points. Barnett has been the only consistent player on the floor this season for Toledo, as the guard is netting 13.2 ppg. As a whole however, the team is producing a woeful 54.4 ppg, and that has come on an equally poor 40.7 percent shooting effort.
The Rockets have been down right atrocious this season and even though the team is home look for the Cardinals to soar past Toledo en route to another league win.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
