GAME NOTES: The final road game of the regular season for the Boise State Broncos takes place tonight as they drop in on the New Mexico State Aggies for a Western Athletic Conference showdown at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces.
Boise State has actually shown some signs of life in the last couple weeks with two wins in three tries. The squad posted a 72-59 win over Louisiana Tech on the road two night ago, but still the Broncos are a mere 3-10 versus the rest of the WAC.
Meanwhile, the Aggies are still fighting hard for a top seed in the upcoming WAC Tournament, which is why winning three in a row and six of the last seven just isn't good enough right now. NMSU remained in the hunt with a 78-57 thrashing of visiting Idaho on Wednesday night.
With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, NMSU holds a 13-9 advantage after posting an 88-85 win at Taco Bell Arena earlier in the campaign.
Prior entering the Thomas Assembly Center on Thursday night, the Broncos had won only three true road games, but that didn't stop them from sneaking up on the Bulldogs and pulling off the win. Paul Noonan came off the bench to lead four players in double figures with his 14 points, while also ripping down a team-best seven rebounds. Ike Okoye was responsible for 12 points, followed by Daequon Montreal and La'Shard Anderson 10 points apiece. Okoye paces the program in scoring and rebounding with averages of 13.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest. Robert Arnold (10.5 ppg), Anderson (10.2 ppg) and Montreal (10.0 ppg) complete the list of double-digit scorers for the group at the moment, with Anderson having handed out 105 assists and made 70 steals to make him one of the biggest thieves in the nation.
New Mexico State's defense held Idaho to just 30.9 percent shooting from the field and forced the Vandals into 19 turnovers as the Aggies cruised to the win a couple nights back. Jahmar Young tallied 23 points, Jonathan Gibson 15 and Wendell McKines 11 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots as he fended off six turnovers as well. Young is still the most lively scorer on the roster for the Aggies with his 21.0 ppg, but he hasn't been doing all the work himself. In fact, Young is one of five players scoring in double figures after 27 games and someone like Troy Gillenwater has just come on of late to give the Aggies new life. Gillenwater is posting 13.8 ppg and 6.5 rpg in an effort to take some of the pressure of guys like McKines (11.2 ppg, 9.8 rpg).
The Broncos had their moment in the sun on Thursday night, so now it is NMSU's turn, especially since the Aggies are at home and would like to be riding into the last week of the regular season on a high note.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
