GAME NOTES: Big Sky Conference foes close out their respective regular seasons tonight, as the Idaho State Bengals visit the Eastern Washington Eagles at Reese Court in Cheney.
The Bengals come into tonight's meeting with a 7-21 overall record, and they are in the midst of a three-game slide. ISU found itself on the wrong side of a 98-63 blowout on Friday night at Portland State to fall to 4-11 in Big Sky action.
As for the Eagles, they were beat handily by visiting Weber State on Friday, 85-57, marking their third consecutive setback. The loss dropped EWU to 4-11 in league play and 8-22 overall.
The Eagles own a 32-27 advantage in the all-time series with the Bengals.
The Bengals were overmatched at Portland State on Friday night, as they allowed the Pilots to shoot 51.5 percent from the floor. The Bengals converted just 44.0 percent of their attempts, and were guilty of 22 turnovers. Amorrow Morgan scored 21 points to lead the way for ISU in the loss, while Demetrius Monroe added 15 points to go with eight rebounds. Chron Tatum got into the mix as well, chipping in 10 points while collecting five boards. On the season, ISU has connected on a solid 45.2 percent of its chances from the floor, but the result has been a scoring average of only 66.3 ppg. Morgan leads the squad with 16.9 ppg, and he is joined in double figures by Broderick Gilchrest and his 15.5 ppg. Monroe has been a solid contributor as well for the Bengals, chipping in 9.3 ppg to go with a team-high 7.2 rpg.
The Eagles just couldn't seem to get it together in Friday's blowout loss to Weber State, as they hit a miserable 28.8 percent of their field goal attempts, which included a 6-of-28 showing from beyond the arc. The Eagles were guilty of a game-high 18 giveaways during the meeting as well, and were dominated on the glass to the tune of 48-33. Glen Dean scored 17 points to lead the way for EWU, while Jeffrey Forbes tallied 10 points. Dean, with 12.4 ppg, paces the club on offense this season, and he has helped his teammates out to the tune of 129 assists through 29 starts. He is joined in double figures by Forbes and Mark Dunn, who are netting 11.0 and 10.5 ppg, respectively.
EWU has the homecourt edge here, although this one could easily wind up in favor of ISU. There isn't much to either of these clubs, but the Eagles should have enough in the tank to slip past the Bengals.
