Iowa State (14-14) at Colorado (12-15)

GAME NOTES: The Iowa State Cyclones have made the trip to Boulder for what should be a competitive Big 12 Conference encounter with the Colorado Buffaloes.

Iowa State carried a six-game skid into Wednesday's game with Nebraska, but the result was a much-needed 78-74 triumph. Still, the Cyclones are 14-14 overall and just 3-10 in conference. They are a mere 2-6 in true road games heading into this contest, not exactly a reason for confidence.

Colorado has lost two straight games and six of its last seven to fall to 12-15 overall and 3-10 in league play. On Wednesday, the Buffaloes were completely demolished by Missouri in a 92-63 final on the road. Fortunately, they now return home where they are 11-3 to date.

Iowa State edged Colorado, 64-63, in a thriller last month, and the Cyclones own a 76-67 series advantage over the Buffaloes.

Craig Brackins was tremendous for Iowa State against Nebraska on Wednesday, as he scored 11 of his 21 points in the final six minutes of action. Brackins also grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked four shots for the Cyclones, who got 17 points from Scott Christopherson, 15 from Marquis Gilstrap and 11 points and seven assists from Diante Garrett. ISU earned a 36-29 rebounding advantage and a 25-11 edge in points from the foul line. Brackins is generating 16.7 ppg this season to go along with 8.4 rpg, and Gilstrap adds 14.5 ppg and 9.2 rpg as the other half of an impressive duo. The Cyclones are generating 72.3 ppg this season while holding opponents to 69.5 ppg, but they are being outscored by seven points per contest by league foes.

Because Colorado doesn't win a lot of games in Big 12 play, Cory Higgins doesn't get the attention he deserves. The standout is netting 18.0 ppg for the Buffaloes to go along with 50 steals, and his 83.8 percent accuracy from the foul line has been key to his success. Alec Bucks checks in with 16.7 ppg as an outstanding second scoring option for the team, and Marcus Relphorde provides 10.7 ppg. Colorado is putting up 73.7 ppg while allowing 73.6 ppg, but like Iowa State, the numbers haven't been pretty against league foes. In the ugly loss to Missouri last time out, Higgins scored 21 points, while Burks finished with 13. The Buffs were clearly hurt by 19 turnovers, and they permitted the Tigers to shoot 58.3 percent from the field.

Colorado will avenge the narrow loss to Iowa State in the first meeting. Expect the Buffaloes to pull away down the stretch.
