Miami-Ohio (12-16) at Kent State (21-8)

GAME NOTES: The Kent State Golden Flashes are currently on top of the East Division in the Mid-American Conference and will try to stay there when they host the Miami-Ohio RedHawks this evening at the M.A.C. Center.

The RedHawks fell to 8-6 in conference action with a 70-68 setback to Ohio in their last matchup. It was the third loss in the last four games for Miami- Ohio, which is a meager 2-12 on the road this season.

The Golden Flashes are 11-3 in conference play, which places them in a tie with Akron for the top spot in the East. Kent State grabbed a 75-69 victory over Bowling Green in its last contest, and now has won 11 of its last 12 games.

The RedHawks currently own a commanding, 84-41 edge over Kent State in the all-time series. Miami-Ohio has won the last three meetings, including a 55-53 overtime decision over the Golden Flashes earlier this season.

Scoring has been a major problem for the RedHawks this season, as they are producing just 62.5 ppg, behind a 43.4 percent shooting effort. Kenny Hayes is currently pacing the team offensively, netting 14.5 ppg, to go along with 3.3 apg. However, he is the only player averaging double figures on the year. The last time the RedHawks were on the floor the team shot 52.0 percent from the floor, but still finished on the wrong end of a 70-68 setback against Ohio. Hayes led the way with 20 points and six assists, while Nick Winbush tallied 15 points. Antonio Ballard posted 12 points in the loss.

The Golden Flashes were solid in their recent win over Bowling Green, as they shot 49.0 percent from the floor and also connected on 21-of-32 attempts from the foul line. Justin Greene led the way with 26 points and six rebounds, while Chris Singletary and Tyree Evans tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively. Singletary also finished with five assists and four steals. Greene is currently pacing the team with 14.0 ppg and 6.6 rpg, while Singletary is contributing 11.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg and a team-best 110 assists. On the season Kent State is producing a mediocre 70.5 ppg behind a 43.4 percent shooting effort.

The Golden Flashes might have lost to Miami-Ohio earlier this season, but they are clearly the better team in this matchup and should have no trouble getting back the RedHawks this evening.
