GAME NOTES: Looking to claim a share of the East Division title in the Sun Belt Conference, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will take on the Florida Atlantic Owls this evening at the FAU Arena.
The last time the Blue Raiders were on the floor the team pushed its league ledger to 12-5 on the season with a 74-71 victory over FIU. It was the fifth win in the last six games for MT, which is just 6-7 on the road this season.
As for the Owls, they suffered a 78-69 overtime loss to Western Kentucky on Thursday. It was the fourth loss in the last six games for Florida Atlantic, which is a mediocre 10-7 in conference action.
The Blue Raiders have won six of the eight meetings against FAU in the all- time series, but one of those two victories for the Owls came earlier this season, as FAU defeated MT, 61-60.
The Blue Raiders shot 46.0 percent from the floor in their last matchup and earned a strong victory over FIU. MT also connected on 21-of-31 attempts from the foul line in the win. Calvin O'Neil led the way with 19 points, while Montarrio Haddock tallied 14 points. James Gallam contributed 13 points, while James Washington and Desmond Yates chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively. Yates is currently pacing the team with 13.6 ppg, while Haddock is netting 13.4 ppg, to go along with a team-best 5.8 rpg. As a whole, the team is netting a mediocre 69.3 ppg, while shooting a respectable 44.3 percent from the floor.
The Owls have been one of the most dangerous scoring teams in the conference this season and come into this game netting 74.8 ppg. Greg Gantt is pacing the team with 15.7 ppg, while Raymond Taylor is netting 14.4 ppg, to go along with a team-best 170 assists. The last time the Owls were on the floor the team suffered a tough overtime loss to Western Kentucky. FAU shot 41.8 percent from the floor, and finishing just 8-of-23 from behind the arc. Gantt led the way for the Owls with 19 points, while Brett Royster tallied a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor contributed 14 points and dished out seven assists in the loss.
This is going to be an exciting game, but look for the Owls to pull through with a victory, delaying MT's chances of claiming a share of the division.
