GAME NOTES: Two of the hottest teams in the Big 12 meet up in Manhattan tonight, as the sixth-ranked Kansas State Wildcats entertain the Missouri Tigers at Bramlage Coliseum.
Since losing a close overtime decision to top-ranked Kansas on January 30th, the Wildcats have reeled off six straight wins to move into sole possession of second place in the Big 12 at 10-3. Most recently, KSU capped off a short two- game road trip with an 83-64 besting of Texas Tech on Tuesday. The Wildcats are now a healthy 23-4 overall, marking the program's best start since the 1958-59 season.
The Tigers meanwhile, have posted victories in three straight and five of their last six outings to climb within a game of KSU at 9-4 within the conference. The team was last in action on Wednesday, when it coasted past Colorado for a 92-63 triumph. Now at 21-7 overall, Missouri returns to the road, where it has gone 3-3 in Big 12 play.
Missouri won the first meeting of the season with KSU, 74-68, and that knotted the all-time series at 115-115. The Wildcats however, have won the last five encounters at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Tigers shot a scorching 58.3 percent from the floor, including a 9-of-14 showing from downtown, as they breezed past Colorado earlier in the week. Missouri, which leads the nation in steals per game (11.2) and turnovers forced per contest (20.1), recorded 13 steals and generated 19 mishaps in the win. Marcus Denmon led the way with 21 points off the bench, a nice follow up to his 24-point effort against Nebraska the prior game. Kim English chipped in with nine points and he continues to pace the team in scoring with an average of 14.4 ppg for the season. Denmon, a 44.8 percent three-point shooter, comes in second with 11.4 ppg, while Laurence Bowers tacks on 10.6 ppg and 5.6 rpg.
The Wildcats drained 47.5 percent of their attempts from the floor and 20- of-26 at the foul line, as they handled Texas Tech on Tuesday. KSU also won the battle on the boards, 39-31, and that is nothing new for a team that is outrebounding foes by 5.5 rpg for the season. Jacob Pullen poured in 28 points and dished out five assists to lead the way, while Denis Clemente posted 14 points and five helpers. On the season, Pullen is averaging a hardy 18.8 ppg to head KSU and he also distributes 3.8 apg and shoots 39.6 percent from long range. Clemente has provided a nice complement to Pullen, as he checks in with 16.0 ppg and 4.1 apg. Jamar Samuels adds 11.8 ppg and 5.2 rpg to the mix, while Curtis Kelly contributes 11.5 ppg and 6.4 rpg.
This is a big game for both clubs, as second place in the Big 12 is up for grabs. Go with the Wildcats, as they have plenty of weapons to overcome Missouri's consistent pressure.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
