Murray State (26-4) at Eastern Kentucky (20-10)

GAME NOTES: In what is sure to be a competitive Ohio Valley Conference battle, the Eastern Kentucky Colonels play host to the Murray State Racers at McBrayer Arena.

Eastern Kentucky easily handled conference foe UT-Martin at home, 84-60, on Thursday night. The victory was the Colonels' second straight win by a 20+ point margin and marks their sixth triumph in their last eight contests.

Murray State is looking to put Thursday night's 70-65 loss at Morehead State behind them tonight. The defeat marked the Racers' first OVC loss of the season. Prior to the heartbreaking defeat, Murray State was a winner of an impressive 17 consecutive games.

Tonight's matchup marks the 154th meeting between the two teams, while Murray State holds a 92-61 lead. The Racers have been the victors of the last three showdowns, including an exciting 62-60 triumph at home on December 3rd. B.J. Jenkins sunk a jumper with 2.4 seconds left as the Colonels fell victim after holding a 57-48 lead with just over six minutes remaining.

Joshua Jones led Eastern Kentucky in its 84-60 win over UT-Martin on Thursday night, scoring 14 points. Justin Stommes and Robin Mestdagh added 12 points apiece, while Josh Daniel netted 11. Stommes leads the Colonels in scoring on the season, averaging 14.2 points per game, while Josh Taylor and Papa Oppong round out the double-digit performers, scoring 13.4 and 10.9 ppg, respectively. Eastern Kentucky only committed four turnovers in Thursday's game while forcing UT-Martin to cough the ball up 15 times, creating 25 Eastern Kentucky points. The Colonels can clinch a top four seed in the upcoming OVC tournament with a victory tonight.

Murray State leads in just about every major statistical category for the Ohio Valley Conference, as six players average between 9-11 points per game, led by Danero Thomas' 10.5 ppg. The Racers experienced their first conference loss of the season when they fell on the road, 70-65, to Morehead State this past Thursday. The loss leaves Murray State at 16-1 in league play. The Racers found themselves trailing 28-25 at the intermission after their defense let Morehead State connect on 50.0 percent (11-of-22) of its shots from the floor, including five buckets from long range. The second stanza saw much of the same, as Morehead State improved to 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the field to go along with five more three-pointers.

Murray State is definitely looking to avenge Thursday night's defeat, but it doesn't get much more difficult then at McBrayer Arena, where the Colonels are 15-1 on the season. Eastern Kentucky has a conference seed to lock up, where as the Racers are pretty much set at the top. Look for the Colonels to bring the intensity early and go on to gain a close victory.
