GAME NOTES: Pauley Pavilion will be the stage for a Pac-10 tussle between the UCLA Bruins and the Oregon Ducks.
The Ducks pushed their league ledger to 5-10 on the year with a 54-44 victory over USC on Thursday. The win snapped a five-game skid for Oregon, which is just 3-7 on the road this year.
As for the Bruins, they are coming off a solid 65-56 victory over Oregon State. It was the second win in the last three games for UCLA, which is a respectable 10-5 at home.
Earlier this season the Ducks grabbed a thrilling, 71-66 overtime victory over UCLA. Despite the loss, the Bruins still hold a commanding, 81-26 advantage in the all-time series.
The Ducks were not at their best in their last contest, but the team did just enough to get past USC. Oregon shot a mere 36.7 percent from the floor in the contest and connected on just 16-of-24 attempts from behind the arc. Tajuan Porter led the way with 16 points, while LeKendric Longmire tallied 13 points. Porter has been one of the few bright spots on the season for Oregon, as the guard is netting 10.9 ppg. Malcolm Armstead is also posting 10.9 ppg on the year for Oregon, and is also distributing 4.3 apg. As a whole, the team has been nothing more than mediocre, netting 69.1 ppg, behind a 42.8 percent shooting effort.
The Bruins only scored 65 points Thursday against Oregon State, but that was good enough for UCLA to get past the Beavers. UCLA shot a sizzling 52.1 percent from the floor and was led by Tyler Honeycutt's double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Nikola Dragovic and Malcolm Lee tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively. On the season the team is being paced by Michael Roll, who is netting 13.2 ppg, to go along with 100 assists. Lee is contributing 12.1 ppg, while Dragovic is averaging 11.8 ppg and 4.6 rpg. The Bruins come into this matchup shooting a respectable 47.1 percent from the floor, but that has led to just 66.9 ppg.
Neither team has been overwhelming offensively, but look for the Bruins to earn a bit of revenge this evening against Oregon, and remain in the win column.
