Rhode Island (20-6) at St. Bonaventure (12-14)

GAME NOTES: The Rhode Island Rams are in need of a late season run and they will try to get things started today against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies in Atlantic 10 play at the Reilly Center.

The Rams were in the thick of the A-10 race and an NCAA Tournament team until a recent three-game slide put a serious damper on those aspirations. The losses came to three of the top teams in the conference, but URI began its comeback a week ago with a 101-75 trouncing of Fordham. It was an expected win for the Rams, who are now 20-6 overall and in need of a late run in order to regain the confidence of the NCAA Tournament committee.

SBU meanwhile, is coming off back-to-back wins, including a 73-68 besting of Fordham on Wednesday. The triumphs improved the Bonnies to 12-14 overall and 5-8 within the conference, so they will obviously need to win the A-10 Tournament to participate in the Big Dance.

As for the all-time series goes, URI owns a 33-22 lead over SBU and the Rams have won four straight over the Bonnies.

The Rams are averaging a hardy 77.5 ppg for the season, with three players currently placing in double figures. Keith Cothran leads the way with 15.0 ppg and he also has a team-high 49 steals to his name. Delroy James ranks second with each 13.0 ppg and 5.2 rpg, while Lamonte Ulmer produces 11.8 ppg and a team-high 7.3 rpg. In the squad's last contest, Ulmer posted 18 points and Cothran had 13, as URI coasted past Fordham. Akeem Richmond, averaging 9.2 ppg, actually led the charge with 20 points for URI, which shot 54.1 percent from the floor.

SBU had its way down low on Wednesday, holding a 41-35 advantage on the glass and outscored Fordham 44-26 in the paint of a 73-68 decision. Leading the charge was Jonathan Hall, who turned in 24 points and eight rebounds. Andrew Nicholson had just five points and six boards, however, but he still remains the team's leading scorer (16.0 ppg) and rebounder (7.5 rpg) for the season. Hall trails Nicholson with 13.3 ppg and 5.6 rpg, while Chris Matthews chips in 11.8 ppg behind 37.0 percent shooting from downtown.

The Rams are a bit more explosive and their trio of double-figure scorers should help them pick up the win today.
