GAME NOTES: The Wofford Terriers play host to a Southern Conference rival tonight as The Citadel Bulldogs head into battle at the Benjamin Johnson Arena.
Wofford is coming off a home victory on Thursday night against the College of Charleston, 74-68. The win improved the Terriers' conference record to 14-3 and 22-8 overall, while extending their current winning streak to nine.
The Citadel fell to Furman on the road Thursday night, 58-49, marking the second straight defeat for the Bulldogs. Prior to that, they were winners of five consecutive contests, marking their longest winning streak of the season.
The Citadel currently holds a slim 45-43 series lead over Wofford. However, Tim Johnson's bucket with one second remaining put the Terriers over the top with a 44-42 victory against the Bulldogs back on January 21st. Johnson finished the affair with eight points and 12 rebounds, while Noah Dahlman led Wofford with 15 points. Citadel was led by Cameron Wells' game-high 17 points and seven boards.
Wofford defeated the College of Charleston 74-68 on Thursday night. The victory clinched the regular season Southern Conference Championship, which also will have the Terriers sitting as the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Noah Dahlman, the team'0s leading scorer on the season with an average of 17.4 points per game, naturally led the way in the win over Charleston, netting 20 points. Jamar Diggs sunk 19 points, while Cameron Rundles added 15 off of the bench. Tim Johnson tore down 15 rebounds in the win, as the Terriers outrebounded their opponent 44-35 on the night. The Terriers shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the tussle, which is par for the course for them, as they average a shooting percentage of 43.9 percent on the season.
Harrison DuPont scored a team-high 15 points for The Citadel in its loss to Furman on Thursday, 59-44. The defeat saw the Bulldogs' Southern Conference record drop to 9-8, which means they will head into next week's conference tournament as the fourth seed in the South Division. The Bulldogs showed some bite after trailing by 12 points at the intermission, coming out of the locker room to start the second half on a 19-9 run. However, they couldn't keep up the pace and ultimately shot a miserable 24.0 percent from the field for the entire contest. Cameron Wells leads the team in scoring on the season, netting 17.2 ppg, while Zach Urbanus rounds out the double-digit performers with 10.7 ppg.
Wofford is coming off of a high after clinching the top seed in the conference tourney. Look for the Terriers to feed off of that while coming home to play in front of a undoubtedly excited crowd.
