Milwaukee (17-13) at Illinois-Chicago (8-20)

GAME NOTES: The Milwaukee Panthers have been playing solid ball lately, and they are set for a Horizon League battle with the Illinois-Chicago Flames this afternoon.

Milwaukee has won four of its last five games, including Thursday's thrilling 63-61 decision over Loyola-Chicago. The Panthers are now 17-13 overall, including 9-8 in league action, and they can even their record in true road games at 7-7 with a victory today.

UIC has won its last two games, surprising considering the fact that only six of the team's first 26 outings resulted in victories. Two days ago, the Flames knocked off a solid Green Bay squad in a 78-71 final to move to 7-6 at home. Still, the club's 8-20 overall mark and 3-14 league record are far from impressive.

Milwaukee beat Illinois-Chicago, 57-52, at home on December 3rd to take a 32-22 advantage in the all-time series.

Ricky Franklin is averaging 15.1 ppg for Milwaukee, and he is handing out 4.0 apg to lead the club by a wide margin in that category. James Eayrs provides 12.5 ppg and 5.7 rpg for the Panthers, who are posting 69.3 ppg while yielding 67.7 ppg to their opponents. Anthony Hill came through with 21 points in 27 minutes of action for Milwaukee in Thursday's thrilling win over Loyola, and Franklin was close behind with 20 points and six assists. The Panthers shot a lowly 31.8 percent from the floor in the first half of that game and trailed by nine points at intermission. Fortunately, they were able to connect on 52.2 percent of their field goal attempts over the final 20 minutes, including a 6- of-9 effort from three-point range. A 17-2 advantage in points from the foul line was one of the keys to victory.

Robo Kreps has been the leading scorer for Illinois-Chicago in each of the last three games, and while he tops the roster for the season with 15.0 ppg, his 34.7 percent shooting from the field leaves much to be desired. Zavion Neely provides 12.1 ppg for the Flames, and Jeremy Buttell is close behind with 12.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg. UIC is only generating 62.0 ppg through 28 games, doing so on just 38.6 percent shooting from the field, which includes a 29.9 percent effort from three-point range. The Flames are allowing 70.0 ppg while being outrebounded by six boards per contest. Kreps scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the recent victory over Green Bay, while Neely tallied 18 points. As for Buttell, he rounded out the trio with 16 points and 11 boards.

UIC is playing with some confidence right now, but a Milwaukee win is likely today. Expect the Panthers to ride Franklin and Eayrs to victory.
