GAME NOTES: With the second seed in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament already locked up, the Wright State Raiders turn their attention to Cleveland State as the two programs close out the regular season this afternoon at the Wolstein Center.

Two nights ago, the Raiders won for the fourth time in the last five games with a thrilling 76-73 triumph over Youngstown State in the final moments. The victory moved the team to 12-5 and far enough ahead of the rest of the league so that it knows where it stands with the impending tournament just around the corner.

As for the Vikings, a team that at one time had captured six straight conference wins, they struggled in the final weeks of the regular season with four losses in the last five outings. On Thursday night, the team hosted Detroit and was held to just 54 points in an 11-point setback. CSU enters the weekend tied with Milwaukee for fifth place in the league standings, so there is still some issues unresolved when it comes to tournament seeding.

Thanks to a 73-64 win in the first meeting of the season back in early December, the Raiders own a 27-24 advantage in the all-time series with CSU.

Wright State led by nine points with just under 15 minutes to play in the second half, but the team had to rely on a three-pointer by Troy Tabler with just 0.5 seconds to play to provide them with the win over YSU on the road. Tabler finished the game with 14 points, one of six players on the squad to hit for double figures. Todd Brown checked in with 16 points, Vaughn Duggins 14 and Cory Cooperwood 11 points before fouling out, while Scott Grote and N'Gai Evans chipped in 10 points and a combined eight assists as well. Duggins leads the team in scoring with an average of 14.5 ppg, even though he missed three games, coming up with 76 assists to place second in that department as well. Brown is responsible for 13.2 ppg as a 40 percent shooter behind the three-point line. Long-distance shooting has been crucial to the team's success this season as they make an average of more than seven treys per game and have 62 more than the competition.

The Vikings hurt themselves with just 5-of-16 shooting behind the three-point line, a mere five offensive rebounds and just 20 overall, not to mention 15 turnovers in their loss to Detroit two nights ago. Norris Cole was again the leading scorer for the team with his 20 points on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting beyond the arc and 5-of-6 at the stripe, while D'Aundray Brown and Jeremy Montgomery responded with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The leading scorer in three straight games for the Vikings, Cole is responsible for 16.6 ppg on the season, thanks in large part to his 80.3 percent shooting at the free- throw line. More than just a shooter though, Cole is also first on the team with 124 assists, almost twice as many as any of his teammates at this stage. Aaron Pogue (6.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg) has given the team some life in the paint, but the fact that he has fouled out of eight games is rather glaring for a squad that is clearing less than 30 rpg on the season.

The Raiders live and die by the perimeter shot and at some point it is going to come back to bite them, perhaps even today at Cleveland State, although it doesn't seem likely.
