Wyoming (9-18) at Utah (13-14)

GAME NOTES: The Wyoming Cowboys shoot for a rare season sweep of the Utah Runnin' Utes as the two Mountain West Conference foes clash at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City today.

Wyoming has a total of just two conference wins this season and is second-to- last in the MWC standings with a mark of only 2-11. Struggling without its top player (Afam Muojeke) who was lost for the season with an injury, Wyoming has lost seven in a row and 10 of the last 11 games overall. Last weekend, the team was crushed by nationally-ranked BYU at home, 85-63.

As for the Utes, they've been stuck in a trend that has them alternating wins and losses for the last six games. On Wednesday night, the team took care of Air Force on the road at Clune Arena by a score of 54-43, marking the fourth time this season Utah has failed to register at least 60 points in an outing.

The Cowboys won the first meeting of the season in Laramie back in late January by a score of 75-69, but still Utah owns a 92-75 advantage in the all- time series. In that contest Wyoming's Adam Waddell tied the MWC single-game rebounding record with 22 boards.

Desmar Jackson scored a game-high 26 points, shooting 9-of-18 from the floor and 4-of-5 behind the three-point line against the BYU Cougars last weekend, but even that was not enough to keep the home team from losing by 22 points. Djibril Thiam added 12 points and seven boards, but having fellow starters Adam Waddell, JayDee Luster and Arthur Bouedo combine to make only 5-of-17 from the field didn't help matters much. Thanks to his scoring burst in the last outing, Jackson is now the active leading scorer for the Cowboys with his 10.5 ppg, even though he is shooting a mere 23.5 percent behind the three- point line. Waddell (10.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and Thiam (9.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg) have contributed as well, but now with A.J. Davis (10.0 ppg) also on the sidelines the job gets just that much harder for the Pokes.

Holding down one of the lowest-scoring teams in the nation wasn't really that tough for the Utes earlier this week, but the squad did have some issues scoring points of their own. Marshall Henderson tallied a game-high 16 points, Luka Drca 13 and reserve Jay Watkins 10 points in just 13 minutes off the bench. Utah held a 30-18 advantage on the glass and limited the Falcons to just 2-of-17 shooting behind the three-point line in the meeting. Carlon Brown, who missed all three of his field goal attempts and was held scoreless by Air Force, is still the leading scorer for the Utes with his 13.2 ppg, having done a good bit of damage at the free-throw line where he has made more shots (84-of-114) than all but one of his teammates has even attempted. Brown, Henderson (12.5 ppg) and Drca (10.0 ppg) have combined for 131 three-point baskets, with no one else on the roster having converted more than seven triples through 27 games.

Neither one of these teams is a scoring machine, but at least Utah has not lost its primary offensive weapon. It won't be pretty, but expect the Utes to hold their own at home today.
