GAME NOTES: Conference-USA action will take place this evening when the UCF Knights host the East Carolina Pirates in Orlando.
It has been a rough season for the Pirates, who have lost 19 games on the year. ECU has dropped six of its last eight contests, and comes into this game fresh off an 85-73 loss to Tulsa. The loss to the Golden Hurricane dropped the Pirates to a mere 3-11 in league play.
The Knights have fallen to 5-9 in league play thanks to their current three- game losing skid. The last time UCF was on the floor the team suffered a heartbreaking, 121-115 triple-overtime setback to Marshall.
The Knights have dominated the all-time series against East Carolina, winning 11 of the 12 matchups, and that includes a 5-0 mark at home.
The Pirates have been inconsistent at the offensive end of the floor, as the team is netting just 66.8 ppg. The Pirates are shooting a mediocre 43.2 percent from the field and have struggled from long range, netting just 31.5 percent of its three-point attempts. Brock Young is pacing the team with 15.5 ppg and 159 assists, while Darrius Morrow is averaging 12.2 ppg, to go along with a team-best 6.7 rpg. The last time the Pirates were on the floor the team scored 73 points, but still fell to Tulsa. ECU shot 46.6 percent from the floor, but finished just 4-of-11 from behind the arc. Young led the way in the loss with 30 points, while Morrow added 15.
The Knights are coming off a hard-fought triple overtime contest against Marshall, but unfortunately they finished on the wrong end of a 121-115 final. UCF shot 45.5 percent from the floor and made 14-of-29 three-point attempts in the setback. Taylor Young led the way in the loss with 23 points, while Keith Canton tallied a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Isaac Sosa also posted 20 points for the Knights, while Marcus Jordan and A.J. Tyler contributed 18 and 12 points, respectively. It was a huge offensive performance for a team that is averaging just 67.1 ppg on the year. Sosa is pacing the team at just 10.6 ppg, while Tyler is contributing 10.3 ppg, to go along with 5.0 rpg.
Neither team has played well offensively, so do not expect a high-scoring affair. However, the Knights have dominated the Pirates in the series and should continue to do so this evening.
