(13) Vanderbilt (22-6) at Florida (20-9)

GAME NOTES: The 13th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores invade Gainesville this evening for an SEC clash with the Florida Gators.

Vanderbilt has won its last two games and five of the last six to shoot up the national poll. The Commodores are still within striking distance of Kentucky in the Eastern Division of the SEC, as they are just a game back at 11-3. They are 22-6 overall and are coming off an 89-72 decision over Arkansas on the road on Saturday.

Florida is undoubtedly eager to get back on the court after suffering a 78-76 loss to Georgia last time out. That setback halted a three-game win streak for the Gators, who are 20-9 overall and 9-5 in conference. They carry a 13-3 mark in home games into tonight's clash.

Vanderbilt knocked off Florida in a 95-87 final back in January, and the Commodores hold a 62-56 edge in the all-time series between the two teams.

Jeffery Taylor scored 18 points for Vanderbilt in the victory over Arkansas last time out. The well-balanced Commodores also got 14 points from A.J. Ogilvy, 13 points apiece from both John Jenkins and Brad Tinsley, and 11 points from Darshawn McClellan. The Commodores shot 53.3 percent from the field, including 65.4 percent in the first half, and they earned a 20-9 edge in points from the foul line. Defensively, they limited the Razorbacks to 37.8 percent shooting. Jermaine Beal is currently the leading scorer for Vandy with 14.6 ppg, and Taylor is close behind with 14.3 ppg. A.J. Ogilvy provides 13.8 ppg for the Commodores, and the center is also tops with 6.1 rpg. Jenkins adds 10.3 ppg, and Vandy is generating 78.8 ppg while holding foes to 69.4 ppg.

Through 29 outings, Florida is averaging 72.1 ppg, and the team is limiting the opposition to 64.7 ppg. Like the Commodores, the Gators have many solid offensive contributors in the fold, and Kenny Boynton spearheads the attack with 13.8 ppg despite his 37.8 percent shooting from the floor. Erving Walker, the team's second-leading scorer (13.0 ppg) and top assist man (146), is shooting an even less efficient 35.5 percent. Chandler Parsons provides 12.3 ppg on 51.1 percent shooting, and he is tops on the boards with 7.0 rpg. Alex Tyus (11.9 ppg) and Vernon Macklin (10.4 ppg) round out an impressive group of performers. Parsons poured in 29 points against Georgia on Saturday, and he also had six assists and six boards. Boynton pitched in 22 points, but the Gators lost the game at the defensive end, permitting the Bulldogs to shoot 57.4 percent.

In a game that figures to be highly competitive, Florida will edge Vanderbilt with the help of the home crowd. Expect a high-scoring affair.
