Akron (2-2) at Detroit (4-3)

GAME NOTES: After hosting the Legends Classic this past weekend, the Detroit Titans will remain at home to take on the Akron Zips in a non-league tilt at Calihan Hall.

Detroit is 4-0 at home thus far. The Titans were in action Sunday against Niagara, as they picked up their third straight win with a 96-77 triumph to close out the Legends Classic. Following this tilt, the Titans will kick off their Horizon League schedule on Saturday against Wright State.

Meanwhile, Akron has been idle since a 64-51 home loss to Cleveland State last Wednesday. The Zips are off to a 2-2 start, and tonight's contest will kick off a four-game road trip. That trip will continue at Illinois-Chicago this Saturday afternoon.

Detroit owns a 3-2 edge in the all-time series with Akron, although this marks the first time these two have met since 1992.

For Akron, the final score of last Wednesday's outing wasn't exactly indicative of how tight the game was. The Zips made it a 57-51 game with 2:16 to play, but Cleveland State scored the game's final seven points to win by 13, the largest margin of the game. Akron held the Vikings to 37.7-percent shooting from the floor, but the Zips could not overcome several key runs by the opposition. CSU also held a 14-7 advantage on the offensive glass to maximize its opportunities on the offensive end. Zeke Marshall led Akron with 14 points and four blocks, though he was the team's only player in double figures. On the season, Marshall is a 55-percent shooter from the floor and is averaging 14.8 points and 3.25 blocks per game. Brett McClanahan leads the team with 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest, while Nikola Cvetinovic rounds out the double-digit scorers with 13.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg.

Titans' junior center Eli Holman was named last week's Horizon League Player of the Week after leading his team to three wins at the Legends Classic, which was hosted by the Titans. Holman averaged a double-double (14.0 ppg, 12.3 rpg) and 2.0 blocks per game to help Detroit capture the subregional championship of the tourney, and for his efforts he was rewarded as MVP of the Classic. Holman already has five double-doubles on the season. Guard Ray McCallum led Detroit with 21 points in Sunday's win over Niagara. Backcourt mate Jason Calliste was close behind with 17 points as five Titans reached double figures in all. The entire starting-five is averaging double figures in the scoring column after seven games, and Holman leads the way with 15.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per tilt. Holman has been the main reason why the Titans are out- rebounding foes by an average margin of 4.7 boards per game.

The Titans are on a roll, and they have the size advantage in this matchup to post yet another win at Calihan Hall.
