Jacksonville State (2-5) at U-A-B (5-1)

GAME NOTES: UAB will try to gain its fourth consecutive victory as the Blazers play host to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in a non-conference affair tonight at Bartow Arena.

Jacksonville State put an end to a four-game skid against South Dakota last Saturday, but fell back into the loss column with a 60-47 defeat at the hands of Illinois State the next day.

UAB would be perfect on the season if not for a three-point loss on November 20th at Arizona State. The Blazers bounced back from that defeat by winning three straight games, including a 78-57 verdict at Troy on Monday night.

This matchup marks the fifth meeting between these two schools, and UAB has come out on top in each of the previous four contests, including an 87-62 decision on JSU's home floor last November.

Jacksonville State was in control early on in the 60-47 defeat to Illinois State on Sunday, leading for much of the first half, but the Gamecocks allowed the Redbirds to score the final six points of the opening frame and trailed by four at intermission. JSU would then let its opponent score the first five points of the second half and was simply unable to catch up after that, shooting just 34.6 percent from the field in the second stanza, including just 1-of-7 from beyond the arc en route to the loss. The Gamecocks were led by Nick Murphy's 16 points. The senior guard was right on par with his team- leading season output of 16.3 ppg. Junior forward Stephan Hall has contributed 10.3 ppg on the year while sinking 15 points in the loss to Illinois State.

Senior guard Jamarr Sanders drained a career-high 23 points in helping UAB knock off the Troy Trojans, 78-57, on Monday night. Sanders was one of three Blazers to finish the contest with a double-double after grabbing 10 rebounds as well. Sophomore forward Ovie Soko tore down 13 boards, marking a career- high, while also contributing 10 points. Cameron Moore rounded out the double- double performers with 16 points and 10 boards. Moore paces the team in scoring on the season, averaging 17.3 ppg, while Sanders is a close second with 16.7 ppg. Senior Andre Johnson just missed recording a double-double of his own by one point in the win over Troy, netting nine points while distributing 10 assists. Johnson entered the contest leading the nation in assists per contest.

Jacksonville State has the ability to impress, as shown in the first half against Maryland. However, the Blazers have too much talent for the Gamecocks to handle.
