UC Davis (3-4) at California (3-2)

GAME NOTES: California will look to continue its domination over UC Davis when the Golden Bears host the Aggies this evening in a non-league affair at Haas Pavilion.

This is the 31st all-time matchup between the two schools, but the first since the 1986-87 campaign. The previous 30 meetings all went in favor of California, which dropped UC Davis, 90-71, in the last showdown.

The Aggies' season began with three straight losses, two of which were by double figures. However, since then the team has turned the tables, winning three of its last four contests, including two in a row. The most recent victory was an impressive 80-58 decision over Seattle.

As for the Golden Bears, they have done almost the exact opposite of UC Davis, as they opened their campaign with three wins, before dropping their last two matchups. The two losses came against Notre Dame (57-44) and Boston College (68-46), which are not exactly weak teams, so look for Cal to get back on track at home, where the team has already claimed two of its victories this season.

The Aggies continue to improve on the season and one of the better offensive performances came in their most recent win over Seattle, as UC Davis shot 52.1 percent from the floor, while also connecting on 23-of-29 attempts from the foul line. Eddie Miller's 20-point effort led the way for UC Davis, while Joe Harden added 16 points and seven rebounds. Harden has been a monster for the Aggies thus far and comes into this game leading the team in points (14.1 ppg) and rebounds (7.3 rpg). However, he has not done it alone, as Mark Payne has also been a solid contributor, posting 12.6 ppg, to go along with 5.4 rpg and a team-best 23 assists. Payne proved his worth in the win over Seattle, as the guard tallied 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.

In Cal's first two games of the season the team scored 80 or more points, in each game, which was on its home floor. However, once the Golden Bears were outside of Berkeley the offense disappeared, as the team tallied 57, 44, and 46 points over its next three matchups, and two of them went for losses. The 46-point showing came against Boston College on Sunday, and the Golden Bears clearly had no rhythm, connecting on just 35.4 percent of their shots, including just 7-of-20 from long range. Jorge Gutierrez, who is leading the team with 13.4 ppg, led the way in the loss with 12 points, while Mark Sanders-Frison tallied 11 points. However, Gary Franklin had another poor showing, netting just 2-of-12 attempts for five points, and Harper Kamp, who is producing 12.6 ppg and 5.6 rpg, also struggled with only four points in the loss.

Obviously if the Golden Bears are going to be successful, they need to find offensive production somewhere. Look for Franklin and Kamp who have struggled lately, to get back on track this evening at home.
