UC Irvine (3-3) at San Diego (1-4)

GAME NOTES: The San Diego Toreros will try to put a stop to their four-game losing streak when they entertain the UC Irvine Anteaters in a non-conference clash tonight at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

UC Irvine is coming off an impressive 77-56 victory on the road against Marist on Saturday. The Anteaters are now winners of three of their last four contests after getting off to an 0-2 start.

San Diego has yet to find the win column again after gaining a season-opening victory, losing for the fourth consecutive time against New Mexico on Sunday, 75-46.

This matchup marks the 24th time these two teams have met, and San Diego currently holds a 13-10 series advantage.

Derrick Strings contributed 17 points to lead a balanced UC Irvine team to a convincing 77-56 victory on the road at Marist this past Saturday night. The junior guard connected on five of his nine attempts from beyond the arc en route to setting a career high in points in just 21 minutes of action off the bench. Strings was one of four Anteaters to score in double-digits. Senior guard Darren Moore added 15 points in the affair, 12 of those points coming in the second half, while grabbing four rebounds and four steals. Fellow senior guard Patrick Rembert scored 12 points on the night, while senior forward Pavol Losonsky sunk 11 points while adding six boards. UC Irvine led by as much as 24 points in the second half on the way to securing its first road victory of the season. The Anteaters outrebounded Marist 40-33 in the win while coercing 13 steals.

Despite losing rather soundly, 75-46, this past Sunday afternoon on the road at one of the toughest places to play in New Mexico, San Diego received a game-high 19 points from sophomore forward Ken Rancifer. Rancifer also led the team with seven rebounds. The Toreros started the contest with some promise, gaining an early 5-0 advantage in the game and leading 13-12 midway through the opening half, however that would be the last time San Diego held a lead as the Toreros found themselves trailing 32-18 at the intermission after connecting on just 30.8 percent of their shots from the floor in that span. New Mexico shot 52.4 percent in the opening 20 minutes of the affair, while draining six of its ten attempts from three-point territory in the second stanza to help seal the victory. San Diego is paced by Rancifer's team-leading 11.6 points per game so far this season, followed up by Matt Dorr and Darian Norris who have contributed 10.3 and 10.0 ppg, respectively.

San Diego hopes to take advantage of an Irvine squad that has been traveling quite a bit, but the Anteaters have too much scoring to let the Toreros take this battle.
