GAME NOTES: An old rivalry will continue this evening when Miami-Ohio meets Xavier for the 98th time, as the RedHawks will host the Musketeers at Millett Hall.
The Musketeers have won eight of the last 10 matchups against Miami-Ohio, including two in a row, and now own a 51-46 lead in the all-time series.
Xavier's season began with four straight wins, but the good times eventually came to an end, as the team suffered its first loss with a 67-58 setback to Old Dominion. However, the Musketeers rebounded with a thrilling, 94-90 triple overtime win against Wofford this past Saturday.
As for the RedHawks, they opened their season with wins in two of their first three games, but since then the team has dropped three straight contests. The most recent loss was an embarrassing, 66-45 setback to second-ranked Ohio State. Next up for the RedHawks will be a road matchup against Dayton.
The Musketeers needed three overtimes to get past Wofford this past weekend, but eventually Xavier was able to claim its fifth win. Xavier shot 49.2 percent from the floor in the win, and also connected on 30-of-40 attempts from the foul line. Another huge advantage for the Musketeers was their advantage on the glass, as Xavier pulled down 20 more rebounds. Tu Holloway exploded for 28 points and also dished out seven assists in the win, while Mark Lyons added 25 points. Holloway has been outstanding to start the year, producing 25.0 ppg, to go along with a team-high 26 assists. As for Lyons, he is behind Holloway, as he is contributing 13.5 ppg. Jamel McLean posted a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds against Wofford, while Kenny Frease did the same, finishing with 12 points and 18 boards. McLean and Frease come into this matchup netting 10.6 and 10.2 ppg, respectively, while McLean is also leading the team with 10.0 rpg.
Clearly the RedHawks were no match for the 2nd ranked Buckeyes, as Miami-Ohio shot a woeful 29.4 percent from the floor, while connecting on just 5-of-19 attempts from behind the arc. Since the team finished with just 45 points, there was not much scoring to go around, which would explain why only two players posted double figures. Orlando Williams led the way with 13 points off the bench, while Julian Mavunga posted 11 points, to go along with eight rebounds. Mavunga has been the player of the floor for the RedHawks and comes into this game leading the team with 10.2 ppg and 6.3 rpg.
The RedHawks were unable to do much against Ohio State, and that is not surprising, but the Musketeers are also tough defensively, and should be able to keep Miami-Ohio under 60 points this evening.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
