GAME NOTES: A pair of struggling MAAC foes meet in Jersey City tonight, as the Marist Red Foxes will try to earn their first road win of the season in a tangle with the Peacocks at the Yanitelli Center.
An eight-game skid came to an end last Saturday for the Red Foxes, as the squad notched an 80-69 victory over Canisius. Still, the Red Foxes currently stand at just 8-15 overall, which includes a 3-9 record against MAAC competition.
As for Saint Peter's, the Peacocks have found even less to brag about this season, with just five wins to show for their 2011-12 campaign. The club has lost four out of their last five overall, including a 66-55 setback at Loyola Maryland on Sunday afternoon that left the Peacocks with just a 4-9 mark in league play.
Saint Peter's leads, 20-17, in terms of the all-time series between the two programs.
Marist finally had some things come together on the offensive end of the court against Canisius, as the squad connected on 48.4 percent of their attempts from the field to go with a 14-of-16 effort at the foul line. The Red Foxes dominated the contest down-low, besting Canisius in the paint by a 42-24 margin, and tallied 26 points through 15 forced turnovers. Jay Bowie scored a career-high 23 points to pace the Red Foxes, while Chavaughn Lewis netted 15 points and Devin Price finished with 12 points. It was a rare night indeed at the offensive end of the court for Marist, which is shooting at an underwhelming 40.5 percent pace as a team so far this year. As a result, the club averages 67.9 points per game, a problem considering the 75.9 ppg afforded to the opposition. Lewis has paced the squad up to this point with a 13.0 ppg tally, and he is joined in double figures by Price (12.9 ppg). Adam Kemp is also worthy of mention, as he sits on the cusp of double-digits with an 8.9 ppg tally to go with a team-leading 7.3 rpg haul.
It was a cold night from the floor for the Peacocks in their last outing, to say the least, as SPC managed a mere 38.0 percent effort from the field against Loyola. A game-high 19 giveaways did the squad no favors either in the 11-point loss, but the Peacocks did find success at the charity stripe to the tune of a 14-of-17 performance during the contest. Darius Conley scored 20 points and hauled in 14 rebounds to pace SPC in the loss, while Lamin Fulton chipped in 10 points. The Peacocks average just 59.4 ppg this season, and are shooting at a lackluster 40.3 percent clip as a team. At the other end of the court, opponents net 68.2 ppg and owns a 36.6 - 31.5 rebounding advantage over Saint Peter's. The club owns just two players scoring in double figures, beginning with Conley and his 11.7 ppg. Conley also leads the squad on the boards (8.0 rpg), while Chris Prescott rounds the duo out with an 11.5 ppg tally.
Given the ability, or lack thereof, demonstrated by Marist on the road this season, give a slight nod to Saint Peter's in this one. However, neither team inspires much confidence, so don't be surprised if this is a low-scoring affair that comes down to the final seconds.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
