U-S-C (6-20) at U-C-L-A (14-11) (ET)

GAME NOTES: The USC Trojans will try to put a bright note on its disappointing season as it travels across town to its old stomping grounds to face the UCLA Bruins in a Pac-12 Conference showdown at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

This will be the 235th meeting in history between the Trojans and Bruins. UCLA extended its series lead to 130-104 on Jan. 15th, 2012 with a dominating 66-47 victory. The Bruins shot 51 percent from the floor and held USC to 36 percent shooting in the initial meeting last month. The Los Angeles Sports Arena, which UCLA is using while the Pauley Pavilion undergoes renovations, was the home of the Trojans from 1959 until 2007.

Head coach Kevin O'Neal's team has lost four in a row and nine of its last 10 coming into today following its 59-47 loss to Stanford on Sunday. The defeat dropped USC to 6-20 overall for the season and 1-13 in Pac-12 action. The Trojans were unimpressive against the Cardinal, as they shot 31.3 percent from the field to be held under 50 points for the third-straight game. USC is averaging a Pac-12 worst 53.3 ppg this season, but has held opponents to net a Pac-12 best 59.3 ppg. A big reason for the Trojans' struggles has been its inability to compete in rebounding battles. USC is being outrebounded by an average of 7.8 boards per game.

Maurice Jones has been excellent this season despite USC's downfall. Jones is leading the team in scoring (13.9), assists (3.3), and steals (1.8). The 5-7 point guard will look to bounce back from his 2-of-14 shooting performance against Stanford in which he netted 10 points. Byron Wesley and Greg Allen each netted 13 points against the Cardinal while Garrett Jackson grabbed a team-high six boards.

Head coach Ben Howland has led UCLA to a 14-11 overall record and a 7-6 mark in Pac 12 action so far. The Bruins had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday as they fell 73-63 to the California Golden Bears in a conference matchup. UCLA was held under 40 percent shooting for the first time in 2012 by Cal. The Bruins were also outrebounded, 36-31, by the Golden Bears. UCLA has outscored its Pac-12 opponents by an average margin of 4.8 ppg, which ranks fourth best in the league.

Lazeric Jones paces UCLA with 13.8 ppg and 4.4 apg. Jones went 6-of-15 from the floor to score 16 points to the team's loss to California his last time out. Jerime Anderson also had 16 points against Cal, except he shot a more efficient 6-of-10 from the field. Joshua Smith has been playing very well off the bench recently. Smith, along with David and Travis Wear, give UCLA one of the more dominant forward rotations in the nation.

There is no reason UCLA should not be able to handle the Trojans once again in this one. The Bruins need this game to position themselves better for the conference tournament. USC really is only playing for pride at this point, which could make it a very dangerous opponent. However, the Bruins are too big and strong for USC to pull off the upset.
