George Mason (23-6) at Northeastern (12-15) (ET)

GAME NOTES: The George Mason Patriots try to keep their pace atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings tonight when they head to Boston to take on the Northeastern Huskies at Matthews Arena.

George Mason has been impressive from the outset this season, going 23-6 overall and the team has yet to lose back-to-back games. The Patriots also own the top record in the CAA at 14-2, but have to share first place for the time being with equally-hot Drexel. They have been cruising right along lately, winning 11 of their last 12 games, including a 75-71 win over Lamar on Saturday as apart of the BracketBusters event.

Northeastern has been sub par overall at 12-15, and it has split its conference games right down the middle at 8-8. In a league where there are a handful of very good teams and a few very bad ones, the Huskies sit alone in seventh place with no squad closer than two games of them in either direction. After a good start to its CAA schedule, NU has struggled of late, dropping five of its last six, including its BracketBuster bout on Saturday against Stony Brook, 76-69.

George Mason leads the all-time series, 10-8. This marks the first meeting of the season between these two teams, with the Patriots taking both matchups last season to claim the series advantage.

Ryan Pearson has been for catalyst for George Mason on the season as one of the CAA's best players. The forward ranks third in scoring (17.8 ppg), fifth in rebounding (8.6 rpg) and seventh in field goal percentage (.510), and he continued his dominance in Saturday's game, going for 17 points and 10 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season. As a team, George Mason shot a lights-out 57.1 percent from the floor, but made the game much closer than it liked by letting Lamar connect on 47.4 percent of its total shots as it erased much of the 13-point half-time deficit. The Patriots have the conference's best offense, ranking first in both scoring (70.3) and field goal percentage (.460). Though Pearson is their only double-digit scorer, steady contributions are also made by Sherrod Wright (9.6 ppg), Mike Morrison (9.1 ppg) and Vertrail Vaughns (8.9 ppg).

Northeastern shot a lofty 51 percent from the field and it had four players score in double figures, but ultimately fell on Saturday thanks to a late surge by Stony Brook which erased a nine-point Northeastern advantage with 5:53 to play. Joel Smith scored 20 points for the second consecutive game and Jonathan Lee (15 points), Quincy Ford (14) and Kauri Black (10) also put together solid scoring nights for an offense that normally scores just 61.2 ppg. The Huskies get their most consistent production from Lee, who ranks 10th in the conference in scoring with 14.1 ppg and shoots a quality 47.7 percent from the floor. Smith adds 12.3 ppg with 2.3 three-pointers for contest and Ford pitches in 11.3 ppg to the modest offensive attack. Northeastern is in the red in both rebounding margin (-0.8) and turnover margin (-1.15).

George Mason has actually fared better on the road (7-4) than the Huskies have at home (6-5) this season. The Patriots have been too good to stumble here.
