GAME NOTES: The Nebraska Cornhuskers continue their inaugural tour through the Big Ten Conference as they head to Mackey Arena to take on the Purdue Boilermakers.

The series between Nebraska and Purdue has been idle since 1979. The Boilermakers hold a 6-2 advantage against Nebraska after they won the last two encounters.

Head coach Doc Sadler's team is 12-13 overall and 4-10 in its first year of Big Ten play following its 80-57 victory over the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday. Nebraska had its best offensive performance in league play this season against Illinois, as it hit 55.6 percent of its field goals including 10-of-20 from three-point range in the contest. The Cornhuskers hope to continue their stellar shooting as they are still last in the Big Ten in scoring offense with an average of just 61.8 ppg. On the defensive end, the Cornhuskers have held opponents to a respectable 64.1 ppg.

Bo Spencer is the general of Nebraska this season as he leads the team in scoring (15.5) and assists (3.4). Spencer was on fire in the team's recent win over Illinois, as he hit 9-of-11 of his field goals and 5-of-7 from beyond the arc on his way to 27 points.Toney McCray is second on the team in scoring with an average of 10.1 ppg and is also second in rebounding with an average of 4.8 rpg. Brandon Ubel is the team's top rebounder with an average of 5.4 rpg, but the team has struggled without the low-post presence of Jorge Brian Diaz.

Head coach Matt Painter's Purdue team is 17-10 overall, and 7-7 in league play after its 76-62 setback on Saturday courtesy of the Michigan State Spartans. The Boilermakers' struggled from long range in their loss to the Spartans, as they hit just 6-of-22 from beyond the arc in the bout. Purdue allowed Michigan State to make 50.8 percent of its field goals in the losing effort. Purdue has averaged only 68.3 points per game in Big Ten action so far, and it has allowed its league rivals to net 70.5 ppg. The Boilermakers have gone 4-4 away from home this season.

Robbie Hummel is pacing Purdue this season as he is the fifth leading scorer in the Big Ten with an average of 16.0 points. Hummel also leads the squad in rebounding with 6.9 boards per game. Hummel was excellent his last time out, as he scored 24 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds to try to give his team a chance against Michigan State. Lewis Jackson is the second leading scorer for the Boilermakers with an average of 10.1 ppg, and leads the team with 4.1 assists per game. Ryne Smith, Kelsey Barlow, and Terone Johnson are all solid contributors for Painter's squad. Purdue will be without Kelsey Barlow, who was kicked off the team, and D.J. Byrd, who has been suspended, due to an off-court incident which occurred over the weekend.

Although Nebraska was able to pick up a big victory over Illinois its last time out thanks to an amazing shooting performance, Purdue holds the advantage in this one. The Boilermakers might not have what it takes to take down the heavyweights of the NCAA, but they have taken care of business at Mackey Arena this season. Purdue is on the Big Dance's bubble watch, a loss tonight would be detrimental to its chances.
