Final Score: Eastern Mich 62 - Akron 59
Akron, OH (Sports Network) - Jay Higgins scored a game-high 17 points, sinking 5-of-7 behind the three-point line, as he led the Eastern Michigan Eagles to a 62-59 win over the Akron Zips in Mid-American Conference action at Rhodes Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Eagles (11-10, 3-5 MAC) were Antonio Green with 14 points off the bench and Justin Dobbins and Carlos Medlock who both tallied 12 points as the team snapped a brief two-game slide.
The Zips (15-7, 5-3) were led by Brett McKnight who came off the bench to tally 13 points, the only player on the team to hit for double figures as they had a two-game win streak halted.
EMU made just nine total field goals in the first half, but because five of those came from behind the three-point line the squad trailed by just a single point at the break, 32-31.
In the second half it was Akron that suffered poor shooting from the floor (8- of-28), opening the door for the Eagles to come back and capture the three- point win on the road.
The Zips finished the night shooting only 34.7 percent from the field and 5- of-18 out on the perimeter, while Eastern Michigan was able to make good on 7- of-15 behind the three-point line in the meeting.
