El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Derrick Caracter's double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds lead the way for Texas-El Paso, as the Miners defeated the Houston Cougars, 65-58 in Conference-USA play at the Don Haskins Center.

Jeremy Williams added 12 points for UTEP (16-5, 7-1 C-USA), while Christian Polk posted 11 points in the win.

Aubrey Coleman tallied 23 points and pulled down seven caroms for Houston (11-10, 4-4), while Kelvin Lewis contributed 16 points and eight boards in the loss.

Despite shooting a lackluster 38.7 percent from the field in the first half the Cougars went into the break with a 30-26 lead.

In the second stanza the Miners connected on 15-of-30 attempts from the floor and went on to win by a seven-point margin.

The Miners dominated play in the paint, outscoring Houston in the post by a 42-18 margin.
