Akron, OH (Sports Network) - Darryl Roberts scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Akron Zips defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies in Mid- American Conference action at the James A. Rhodes Arena.

Chris McKnight dropped 16 points in the victory for Akron (16-7, 6-3 MAC). Anthony Hitchens scored 15 points, while Brett McKnight added 11.

Northern Illinois (8-13, 4-5) was led by Xavier Silas who scored 15 points. Darion Anderson, Tony Nixon and Sean Kowal all netted 12 points as the Huskies lost their 13th game of the season.

Northern Illinois staggered into the intermission trailing 46-29 behind 32.3 percent shooting from the floor.

The Zips were able to put the game away after connecting on 17 of their 30 attempts from field-goal range in the second half.

Akron took advantage of its ability to hit from outside, sinking eight of 18 three-pointers en route to the victory.
