Niagara, NY (Sports Network) - Rob Garrison scored a game-high 18 points and handed out five assists to help lead the Niagara Purple Eagles to a 66-54 win over the Canisius Golden Griffins in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Gallagher Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Purple Eagles (13-12, 6-7 MAAC), as they won their second in a row, was Anthony Nelson with 17 points, while Bilal Benn contributed with 11 rebounds, six points and four steals in the triumph.
The Golden Griffs (11-13, 6-7), losers of two straight and three of the last four contests, were paced by Julius Coles with 16 points, followed by Tomas Vazquez-Simmons with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Frank Turner with 10 points and eight assists in the setback.
Niagara made good on a solid 48.1 percent from the field in the first half, including six three-point baskets, en route to a 35-29 lead at the break.
In the second half the Purple Eagles sank to only 37.9 percent from the field and 3-of-12 beyond the arc, yet still the squad extended its lead and eventually picked up the 12-point win.
Canisius scored just four points at the free-throw line and suffered with 21 turnovers on the night.
