University Park, PA (Sports Network) - Lawrence Westbrook nailed a fade-away jumper at the buzzer to lead the Minnesota Golden Gophers to a 66-64 triumph over the Penn State Nittany Lions in a Big Ten Conference clash.

Ralph Sampson III finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota (14-8, 5-5 Big Ten), which also got 13 points from Damian Johnson. Westbrook and Blake Hoffarber both finished with 12 points.

Talor Battle netted 20 points to go along with five assists and five steals in defeat for Penn State (8-15, 0-11). David Jackson added 18 points, and Chris Babb contributed 12 points.

The Golden Gophers shot a mediocre 44.8 percent from the floor in the first half and led 36-30 at intermission.

Minnesota owned a 53-44 lead with under 10 minutes remaining in the game, but the Nittany Lions chipped away at the deficit and tied the game at 64-64 with nine seconds left. Unfortunately for Penn State, it couldn't avoid the 10th loss in the last 11 meetings with the Golden Gophers.

A 19-13 edge in points from the foul line and a 32-26 rebounding advantage helped Minnesota claim the win.
