Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Jerry Smith scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Louisville Cardinals bested the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 76-60 in a Big East clash at Freedom Hall.

Samardo Samuels netted 14 points and pulled down 11 boards for the Cardinals (15-8, 6-4 Big East). Jared Swopshire added 13 points and eight boards, while Edgar Sosa finished with 13 points and eight assists.

Dane Miller and Jonathan Mitchell provided 17 points and seven rebounds each for the Scarlet Knights (11-12, 2-10), who had won two straight coming in. Mitchell also dished out seven assists. Mike Rosario added 13 points, while Hamady Ndiaye contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

Louisville led by as many as 17 points in the first half before taking a 43-32 lead into halftime. The Cardinals shot 53.1 percent from the floor in the opening half. Rutgers struggled from long range, going just 2-of-11 from outside the arc in the first 20 minutes,

The Cardinals stayed hot after halftime, shooting 55.6 percent from the floor en route to the 16-point triumph.

Rutgers never led in the game and shot just 38.3 percent from the floor.
