NCAA Game Summary - Seton Hall at Pittsburgh

Final Score: Seton Hall 58 - Pittsburgh 83

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Gilbert Brown led all scorers with 23 points, pacing No. 22 Pittsburgh to a much-needed 83-58 drubbing of Seton Hall in a Big East mismatch.

Jermaine Dixon posted 15 points, while Brad Wanamaker chipped in 13 points and seven assists for the Panthers (17-6, 7-4), who had lost four of their previous five contests. Gary McGhee added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the victors.

Brown, who was held scoreless in the previous game - a loss at West Virginia, went 9-of-14 from the field.

"Last game, I didn't contribute at all," Brown said. "Tonight, I wanted to go out there and be more aggressive and I was able to be productive in different ways. I was scoring, right from the time I made my first shot, I was passing and I was playing defense."

Pittsburgh, which lost to Seton Hall on the road, 64-61, two weeks ago, improved to 12-1 at the Petersen Events Center this season.

Eugene Harvey had 12 points while Robert Mitchell and Jamel Jackson each scored 11 for the Pirates (12-9, 3-7), who have dropped three consecutive games. Jeremy Hazell came in averaging 23.0 points per game but had just two on 1-of-7 shooting in defeat.

"When it rains, it pours. When it snows, it snows. It was tough trip from the beginning," Seton Hall coach Bobby Gonzalez said. "We got Pitt's A-game. They probably played as good as I've seen them play all season. This is a tough place to play, even on a day like today. A lot of things went wrong for us. Games take on personalities. Their defense had a lot to do with it."

Early in the second half, Pitt turned a four-point lead, 41-37, into a double- digit game thanks to a trio of three-pointers from Wanamaker, Ashton Gibbs and Dixon, the latter giving the hosts a 50-37 lead with 14 minutes remaining.

Dixon later sank two free throws and a jumper to cap the game-altering 13-1 spurt, and Seton Hall, which shot a mere 35.7 percent from the floor overall, never cut its deficit to single digits the rest of the way.

A Jackson three-pointer gave Seton Hall an 18-17 lead at the nine-minute mark of the first half. The Panthers went on to score 20 of the next 26 points, though, taking a 37-24 lead on a Dixon layup with just under two minutes left.

The Pirates netted the final six points to pull within seven at the break.
