Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Torye Pelham scored on a tip-in at the buzzer to give the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles a dramatic 57-55 win over the Houston Cougars in Conference USA action.

Gary Flowers scored 15 points for the Golden Eagles (14-8, 4-4 CUSA), who won their fourth straight. Sai'Quon Stone added 12 points for Southern Miss, while R.L. Horton wound up with 11. Pelham finished with 13 rebounds in addition to six points.

Aubrey Coleman tallied 22 points for the Cougars (11-11, 4-5), who have lost four of their last five. Maurice McNeil scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the setback.

Houston led by 11 at one point in the first half before taking a 29-21 halftime lead. The Cougars were tough on defense, holding Southern Miss to a paltry 30.0 percent shooting from the field.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles took a 38-36 advantage at the 10:22 mark and never trailed again. Desmond Wade hit a free throw for the Cougars to tie the game at 55-55 with 30 seconds left, setting the stage for Pelham's heroics.
