Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) - Wayne Chism went 11-of-17 from the field and finished with a career-high 30 points, as 14th-ranked Tennessee routed South Carolina, 79-53.

Bobby Maze and Scotty Hopson each had 11 points for the Volunteers (18-4, 6-2 SEC), who have won three in a row since losing back-to-back games to Georgia and Vanderbilt in late January.

"Wayne Chism is such a hard guy to cover on the inside," Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl said. "I thought our team did a great job of recognizing him and finding him, and he took full advantage."

Devan Downey sank 13-of-14 foul shots and recorded 26 points, but shot just 5- of-20 from the field as the Gamecocks (13-9, 4-4) shot just 27.6 percent overall.

Brandis Raley-Ross had 12 points and Sam Muldrow hauled in 16 rebounds for South Carolina, which had won its last two.

Lakeem Jackson began the game with a layup for South Carolina, but the Gamecocks didn't score again for about 10 minutes in a slow start to the contest. J.P. Prince's layup put Tennessee ahead 8-2 just before the midway point of the opening half.

It was still close before the Vols ended the half on a 12-4 run, which put them ahead 30-16 at the break.

Tennessee then poured on the offense in the second half. An eight-point burst, capped by a Hopson trey, made it a 42-20 game, and South Carolina never recovered.

"I cannot even count how many easy baskets they got to start that half," South Carolina head coach Darrin Horn said. "And when that lead goes from 14 points to 20 points, as we have talked about all year, we are not really in a situation where it is easy for us to overcome that because we are not too deep and we are not explosive offensively."

An 8-1 Vols run, capped by a Melvin Goins layup with 8:43 left, pushed the advantage to 65-38, and UT cruised from there.
