Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Aaron Johnson scored a game-high 28 points to lead the UAB Blazers to a 76-65 win over the Rice Owls in Conference USA action from the Tudor Fieldhouse.

Jamarr Sanders also added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Blazers (19-4, 7-2 CUSA), while Elijah Millsap netted 13 points in the victory.

Rice (7-15, 1-8) was paced by Arsalan Kazemi who tallied 15 points and 13 rebounds in a losing effort. Lawrence Ghoram also got involved, netting 13 points, while Trey Stanton and Connor Frizzelle chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Rice stormed out of the locker room, shooting 48.1 percent from the floor in the first half to take a 31-26 lead at the break.

UAB clawed its way back into the game in the second stanza, knocking down 7- of-11 three-point attempts en route to a nine-point victory.

Free-throw shooting proved to be the difference in this contest, as UAB outscored Rice 28-10 from the charity stripe.
