NCAA Game Summary - Vanderbilt at Georgia

Final Score: Vanderbilt 58 - Georgia 72

Athens, GA (Sports Network) - Travis Leslie recorded 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists, as the Georgia Bulldogs upended 18th-ranked Vanderbilt, 72-58, at Stegeman Coliseum.

Trey Thompkins also scored 17 with seven boards and Dustin Ware added 10 points for Georgia (10-11, 2-6 SEC), which has logged both its league wins this season against ranked opponents having knocked off then eighth-ranked Tennessee on January 23. The Bulldogs had lost all three games since.

"Even after we didn't start off the second half well, the defense improved and held us together. There was a lot of unselfish play from the team. This was the type of game that really makes you feel good about yourself," said Georgia head coach Mark Fox.

Jermaine Beal had 21 points and Brad Tinsley posted 18 for Vanderbilt (17-5, 6-2), which had won 11 of its last 12 games coming in. Vandy was doomed by a 32.8-percent showing from the field.

"We've been shooting around 50 percent and tonight it didn't seem like anyone could get one to drop. It's tough to deal with when you get into point blank range and you cant get anything. [Brad Tinsley] and [Jermaine Beal] were really good, but no one else could get anything going," lamented Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings.

The Commodores held a slim 26-23 advantage after 20 minutes and used a 10-4 stretch to open the second half for a little separation at 36-28.

However, an 18-6 run for the Bulldogs yielded a five-point lead, 50-45, approaching nine minutes to go. Leslie drained six consecutive free throws during the stretch and later poured in seven straight points for the hosts for a 57-50 difference with six minutes remaining.

A.J. Ogilvy dropped in a layup to keep Vandy close, but Georgia put the game away by scoring 11 of the next 13 points, capped by back-to-back three- pointers from Vincent Williams and Ricky McPhee for a 68-54 lead with three minutes left. The visitors managed just four points from there.
