Final Score: Indiana 61 - Northwestern 78
Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - John Shurna led five players in double figures as he tallied 16 points for the Northwestern Wildcats as they defeated the Indiana Hoosiers, 78-61, in a Big Ten battle at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Jeremy Nash recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Wildcats (16-7, 5-6 Big Ten) as they won their second in a row. Luka Mirkovic added 14 points, Michael Thompson 12 and Drew Crawford 10 points in the win as well.
The Hoosiers (9-13, 3-7), losers of four in a row, were led by Verdell Jones who dropped in a game-high 26 points, while Christian Watford tacked on 16 in the road defeat.
Northwestern erupted with 59.1 percent shooting from the field in the first half, hitting on 6-of-9 behind the three-point line, to take a 40-29 lead at the break.
In the second half the defense for the Wildcats limited Indiana to just eight total field goals, making it that much easier for Northwestern to come away with the 17-point victory.
While the Hoosiers were able to make good on 23-of-27 shots at the charity stripe, the squad made just 2-of-17 attempts behind the three-point line on the day.
With the victory the Wildcats have now posted three straight wins over the Hoosiers for the first time since 1932-33.
