Poughkeepsie, NY (Sports Network) - Scott Machado scored 17 points, converting all six of his free-throw tries, as he helped lead the Iona Gaels to a 56-51 win over the Marist Red Foxes in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the McCann Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Gaels (18-7, 10-4 MAAC) was Rashon Dwight with 12 points, while Alejo Rodriguez came up a point shy of a double- double as he posted a team-best 10 rebounds in the team's ninth win in 10 tries.

The Red Foxes (1-23, 1-13), losers of 12 in a row and all but one of their 24 outings this season, were paced by Candon Rusin with 17 points, followed by Daye Kaba with 10 points.

Iona scored the first points of the afternoon and never looked back, leaning on its defense to hold the Red Foxes to a mere 36 percent shooting from the field in the first half to claim a 31-28 lead at the break.

In the second half the Gaels had a hard time lining up shots from the floor, converting just 6-of-18 attempts, but the visitors saved themselves with an impressive 11-of-12 showing at the charity stripe in the period to grab the five-point win.

Iona managed to survive despite just 5-of-19 shooting behind the three-point line and 18 turnovers.
