Final Score: St Bonaventure 71 - Saint Josephs 78
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Darrin Govens scored a team-high 22 points to lead the Saint Joseph's Hawks to a 78-71 win over St. Bonaventure in an Atlantic 10 Conference clash at Hagan Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Hawks (9-14, 3-6 A-10) were Idris Hilliard with 19 points and Garrett Williamson 16 as the squad snapped a three-game slide.
The Bonnies (9-12, 2-6), who beat Saint Joseph's at home by a mere three points last month, were paced by Jonathan Hall with his 24 points and game- high 11 rebounds, while Andrew Nicholson accounted for 19 points and nine boards before fouling out. Chris Matthews added 10 points before he too picked up his fifth foul of the afternoon.
Govens scored 12 points in the first half, shooting 2-of-4 behind the three- point line, but the rest of his teammates missed all seven of their three- point tries, which is one of the reasons why the Hawks were left with a 33-33 tie at the break.
In the second half, not only did the home team convert 54.5 percent from the field, the Hawks also knocked down 20-of-26 at the free-throw line to secure the seven-point triumph.
In addition to being outscored at the charity stripe, 29-18, the Bonnies also suffered 23 turnovers, which Saint Joseph's turned into 24 points on the day.
