Valparaiso, IN (Sports Network) - Ryan Broekhoff and Brandon Wood scored 18 points apiece to lift the Valparaiso Crusaders over the Illinois-Chicago Flames by an 83-82 final in Horizon League action.

Brandon McPherson netted 18 points for Valparaiso (13-13, 8-6 HL), which received 11 points from Cory Johnson.

Jeremy Buttell tallied 25 points in defeat for Illinois-Chicago (6-18, 2-12). Robo Kreps scored 17 points for the Flames, who got 11 points from Chris Buchanan. Both Spencer Stewart and Zavion Neely pitched in 10 points.

Valparaiso led 12-4 early on, but UIC answered with a 15-2 run to take a 19-14 advantage. At intermission, the score was deadlocked at 31-31.

The Crusaders took a 52-51 lead on a Howard Little layup with 13:16 remaining in the game, and they never trailed again.

Valparaiso has now won seven of its last nine games, while UIC has lost 10 of its last 11 outings.
