Towson, MD (Sports Network) - Jarrel Smith scored 21 points to power to Towson Tigers to an 81-78 victory over the James Madison Dukes in Colonial Athletic Association play.

RaShawn Polk netted 13 points for Towson (6-17, 3-10 CAA), which received 11 points from Robert Nwankwo. Both Josh Brown and Isaiah Philmore contributed 10 points in the triumph.

Denzel Bowles poured in 29 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the setback for James Madison (10-14, 3-10). The Dukes also got 18 points from Julius Wells and 12 points from Darren White.

With the score deadlocked at 21-21 midway through the first half, Towson scored nine unanswered points. That run powered the Tigers to a 35-28 lead at intermission.

The Dukes trailed by 15 points early in the second half, but they refused to give up and slowly chipped away at the deficit. A three-pointer by White with five seconds remaining cut Towson's lead to 79-78, but the Tigers got a pair of Troy Franklin foul shots with four seconds left to seal the victory.

Towson overcame a 40-25 rebounding deficit by forcing 22 turnovers and earning a 22-15 advantage in points from the foul line.
