Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Randy Culpepper scored 18 points, as the Texas El-Paso Miners defeated the SMU Mustangs, 62-51, in Conference USA action at Moody Coliseum.

Derrick Caracter added 16 points for UTEP (18-5, 9-1 CUSA), while Jeremy Williams netted 11.

Mouhammad Faye scored a game-high 19 points in the loss for SMU (11-12, 4-5), which also received 11 points from Papa Dia.

The Miners found themselves trailing only 24-22 at the intermission despite shooting 29.6 percent from the floor in the first half.

UTEP ran away with the game in the second stanza, connecting on an impressive 60.9 percent (14-of-23) of its field goals en route to the 11-point victory.

UTEP also won the war in the paint, outscoring the Mustangs 24-14 on the night.
