Bowling Green, KY (Sports Network) - A.J. Slaughter and Sergio Kerusch both scored 21 points to help give the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers a 79-68 win over the Arkansas State Red Wolves in Sun Belt Conference action at E.A. Diddle Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Hilltoppers (14-12, 7-6 SBC) were Jeremy Evans and Steffphon Pettigrew with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Red Wolves (14-10, 9-4), losers of two of the last three outings, were paced by Brandon Reed with 20 points and Daniel Bryant 15 points off the bench. Although he missed all six of his field goal attempts and finished with a mere two points, Brandon Peterson accounted for a game-high 13 rebounds.
ASU led by two points early in the contest, but the squad failed to make it to the free-throw line a single time in the first half, resulting in a 40-32 deficit at the break.
In the second half WKU kept up the pressure with 51.7 percent shooting from the floor to capture the 11-point home win.
Arkansas State was saddled with 14 turnovers and a mere 5-of-20 shooting behind the three-point line on the night.
