Starkville, MS (Sports Network) - Ravern Johnson scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Mississippi State Bulldogs to a 71-63 win over the Ole Miss Rebels in an SEC showdown at Humphrey Coliseum.
Barry Stewart also added 12 points for MSU (17-7, 5-4 SEC), while Jarvis Varnado chipped in with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Dee Bost also got involved, netting 11 points in the win.
The Rebels (17-7, 5-5) were paced by Eniel Polynice, who scored 14 points in a losing effort. Terrico White and Zach Graham also got involved, netting 13 and 11 points, respectively, while Trevor Gaskins chipped in with 10 points.
MSU took control of the contest in the first half, shooting 41.7 percent from the floor, to take a 33-29 lead at the break.
The Bulldogs kept the pressure on in the second stanza, knocking down 8-of-11 free-throw attempts, en route to an eight-point win.
Free-throw shooting proved to be the difference in this contest, as MSU outscored Ole Miss 15-3 from the charity stripe.
