El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Randy Culpepper poured in a career-high 45 points, tying the second-highest output in both Texas-El Paso and Conference USA history, as the Miners easily handled the East Carolina Pirates in a 100-76 decision at the Don Haskins Center.

Culpepper played just 32 minutes as he converted 14-of-18 from the floor and 9-of-12 behind the three-point line on the night. Derrick Caracter scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the rout for UTEP (19-5, 10-1 CUSA).

Erin Straughn led East Carolina (8-16, 2-9) with 18 points in the loss. Brock Young scored 13 points and handed out seven assists, while Corvonn Gaines netted 10.

The Miners took a commanding 63-33 lead into the intermission after connecting on an impressive 63.9 percent of their attempts from the floor in the first half. UTEP also made good on 9-of-14 behind the three-point line.

The Pirates made a strong showing in the second stanza, hitting on 15-of-27 on their field goals, but it wasn't nearly enough to overtake the massive lead established by UTEP.

The Miners defense was relentless in the affair, scoring 25 points off 23 ECU turnovers.
