Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Micheal Eric scored 19 points and Ryan Brooks added 18, as the 21st-ranked Temple Owls shot the lights out in a 78-56 drubbing of Rhode Island in Atlantic 10 action.

The Owls (20-5, 8-2 A-10) looked well rested from an ugly 71-54 loss at Richmond last Saturday, rebounding nicely by shooting a school-record 68.6 percent from the floor en route to the blowout win.

Lavoy Allen chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds, while Ramone Moore scored 12 points for Temple, which won the battle in the paint, 50-14.

Akeem Richmond and Delroy James each netted 11 points for the Rams (19-5, 7-4), who had won four straight before dropping their last two.

The game was a far cry from the competitive January 10th meeting between the schools, with Temple taking a 68-64 decision in overtime last month.

The Owls had their way with the Rams throughout Saturday's tilt, jumping out to an 18-8 lead when a Brooks basket capped a 9-0 run 6 1/2 minutes in.

The margin was nine when Rahlir Jefferson's bucket sparked a 17-4 flurry with nine minutes left in the stanza. Eric had eight points during the six-minute stretch, capping it with a jumper for a healthy 41-19 cushion.

The Rams improved on their 26.7 percent shooting mark from the first half, but their 43-23 halftime deficit was too much to overcome in the final 20 minutes.
