Hattiesburg, MS (Sports Network) - Gary Flowers scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles to a 66-50 victory over the Rice Owls in a Conference-USA bout at Reed Green Coliseum.

Angelo Johnson added 12 points for Southern Mississippi (15-9, 5-5 C-USA), while Sai'Quon Stone tallied nine points and seven rebounds.

Lawrence Ghoram netted 13 points for Rice (8-16, 1-9), while Lucas Kuipers posted 12 points.

Despite shooting just 33.3 percent from the floor in the first half the Golden Eagles went into the break with a 30-27 advantage.

In the second stanza Southern Miss held the Owls to a meager 31.8 percent shooting effort from the floor, en route to a 16-point win.

Southern Mississippi connected on 27-of-33 attempts from the foul line, while Rice finished just 13-of-23 from the charity stripe.
