Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Kelvin Lewis scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Houston Cougars to a 66-60 win over the SMU Mustangs in Conference USA action at Hofheinz Pavilion.

The Cougars (13-11, 5-5 C-USA) also received 16 points and eight rebounds from Aubrey Coleman in the win.

SMU (11-13, 4-6) was paced by Derek Williams, who tallied 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a losing effort. Mouhammad Faye also added 10 points for the Mustangs, while Papa Dia and Robert Nyakundi each grabbed 10 rebounds.

Houston got off to a fast start, shooting 7-of-19 from the three-point range in the first half to take a 31-26 lead at the break.

The Cougars kept the pressure on in the second stanza, knocking down 16-of-18 free-throws en route to a six-point victory.

Three-point shooting proved to be the difference in this contest, as Houston outscored the Mustangs 30-12 from long distance.
